39th Kyiv International Film Festival “Molodist”
24 October - 1 November, 2009

Awards of the Ecumenical Jury

The Ecumenical Jury at the 39th Kyiv International Filmfestival “Molodist”, appointed by the International Church Film Organisation INTERFILM and the World Catholic Association for Communication SIGNIS awards its Prize to the film

La Pivellina
by Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel (Italy/Austria)

La pivellina

Motivation:
Like Moses in the basket, a two years old abandoned child is found and cared for by an old circus princess. In a convincing artistically, improvising and documentary style the film shows people on the border of society, who give shelter to a stranger by bringing warmth and happiness into hers and their own lives.

Synopsis:
“La Pivellina” is a film about a cosmos of outcasts in present day Italy. A tale of courage and discrimination, of loss and sharing together, a look behind the corrugated iron fence of a gated community. (Festival information)

The film also won the Grand Prix of the festival.

In addition, the Jury awards a Commendation to the film

Volchok (Wolfy)
 by Vasiliy Sigaryev, Russia 2009

Volchok

Synopsis:
There are two of them: a mother and a girl. They have no names. And they are in a constant run. The mother runs away from the daughter in an attempt to start new life, and the girl runs after her mother as she has no idea how to live without her. This endless run is full with repeated mistakes and resembles a barrel-organ sorrowful song or a spinning-top rotation. This small ridiculous toy "volchok" was the first toy in the girl's life, the only thing that tied her with the mother. But one day this running comes to an end. (Festival information)
